Sharing your faith effectively

“If they just read it for themselves, it will surely lead them to Christ”. These were the words of a teenager who desired more than anything that people would simply read the Word of God, the Bible. And so it was that The Pocket Testament League (PTL) ministry was started by this young lady, Helen Cadbury in 1893.

It is this very same vision that drives the PTL ministry to this day. Is this your desire too? To share the Word so that others may also come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour?

As Christians we’ve been given a commission: “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere …” (Mark 16:15 – NLT). This is where we, as believers, often struggle. How do we share our faith with others?

I have good news! Some time ago I was introduced to The Pocket Testament League ministry. Their website, www.ptl.org, is packed with excellent material to help Christians reach out to the lost. Not only does it provide evangelism tools but free evangelism training. To encourage one in one’s own walk with the Lord, free daily devotionals are also made available.

The PTL ministry was exactly what I needed to help me in my walk with the Lord and evangelism. When it comes to evangelism, the most effective evangelism tool is indeed the Word of God itself!

But what is evangelism really? It is simply taking advantage of opportunities to share the Good News about Jesus with others. Telling others about Jesus!

The Pocket Testament League has shared more than 110 million Gospels over the years. The high-quality glossy-covered Gospels come in a variety of covers and themes suitable for use in a variety of situations. Small and light-weight, it fits into your pocket with ease, ready to be handed to someone at any time. The Gospel of John, which is one of the four books of the Bible that speak about the life of Christ Jesus, is the Gospel of choice as it has some unique elements that make it very suitable for evangelism.

Encouraging one-to-one opportunities to share the Good News with others is what the PTL do best. Members are encouraged to share their experiences and what a blessing it is to read these testimonies and realize afresh that God is still at work in the lives of countless people across the world. “For the Word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword … “(Hebrews 4:12 – NLT).

So don’t delay. As we imminently await the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, let us use our time to reach out to those who need the Saviour. Why not join over 300,000 others who today share the vision of Helen Cadbury and start sharing your faith with others in a bold and effective way? Contact The Pocket Testament League today!

Speaking of encouragement …

Some folk find witnessing and sharing their faith with others quite daunting. Yet, if you are a Christian, a believer in the saving work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary, then you and I have a message to share.

The Bible says: “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere …” (Mark 16:15 – NLT). “… how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14 – NLT)

It is not uncommon for Christians to struggle and not know exactly how to share the message effectively. There is good news. My next posting will tell you all about an organization whose business it is to help and support the likes of you and me as we seek to share the life-changing message of Jesus while we still have time. I’ve been blessed by their ministry and I would like you to be blessed as well.

So what’s Christmas all about anyway?

Carols, Christmas lights, parties, presents, food, drinks, shopping, frustration …

Festive music and carols fill the air in almost every shop, restaurant and Shopping Centre. Christmas songs with no spiritual meaning or message are piped through most shopping malls. According to a recent survey, only about one in a 100 cards with any vague reference to the true Christmas message are to be found on the shelves in major High Street stores.

Just recently a very dear friend of mine felt the Lord leading her to make a personalized Christian Christmas card. On the front cover It stated: “Gifts are for unwrapping”. Inside the card: “For God so loved the world (that includes you and me) that He gave His one and only Son” (John 3:16a). It followed on with the question: “Have you unwrapped that gift? …”

Many recipients of that card responded by saying “this certainly reminds us what the real meaning of Christmas is”. Praise God for those who responded and may His Holy Spirit work in the hearts of all those who received that card – Christians and non-Christians alike.

The world is shouting “Away with the manger!” Christians should be challenging the world to “put Christ back into Christmas”. Yes, many of the practices at Christmas stem from heathen and pagan festivals and practices, but, despite that, the Christian church uses this time each year to remember the first coming of Jesus to this earth. He was born as a human baby. He was born, as that famous carol states so beautifully: “born that man no more may die; … Born to give them second birth”.

This Christmas, let us meditate on the fact that Jesus came with a purpose – to save people (you and me) from our sins and to give us hope and eternal life.

As we remember His first coming, be ever mindful of the fact that He is coming back again. Having given us time (more than enough) to repent, to turn away from our sins and to live for Him, He will come as Judge for all those who have rejected Him, His gift of salvation and eternal life.

Let us also, this Christmas, ensure we are ready for His return. “Be ye also ready, for the Son of Man cometh at a time when ye think not! (Luke 12:40)

Pathways to God?

It is often said that there are many paths to God.

Really? I don’t think so.

I discovered the path to life, abundant life (no, not riches in this world) which I found when I met the Lord Jesus Christ as my own personal Saviour. Life on His pathway is full of meaning, even when the world around appears to be ripped apart and senseless.

This may seem a strange phenomena or idea.  You may think I’m narrow-minded.  I’d prefer to call it being focused on the One in whose hands I feel secure.  No, not a religious crutch.   Putting one’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is putting one’s faith in a Person and not a religion.  Religion cannot save you.

“Save me from what?”, I hear you ask.  Heard of a lost eternity?  The Bible, a Book I love and treasure and means everything to me, is the infallible Word of God (and full of precious promises and much encouragement).     I have proved it true many, many times over – that Book has made it clear that there are only two paths.  The one that leads to an eternal hell.  Ouch!!  That is heavy!   The other path leads to eternal life which means freedom from pain, sorrow, tears, death.  In fact, everything that we find more than difficult or hurtful in this life (things which have resulted from sin and disobedience) …

There is so much to say and I’d like to share more of the Good News with you next time.    I’ve chosen His Pathway, the only way  – please read John 14 verse 6 in the Bible (if you haven’t got a Bible, borrow one or do a Google search).  I’ve never regretted the decision I made to follow God’s Pathway.

Lawlessness – sign of the times?

These scenes sent shock waves through the UK, and indeed around the globe. Could this really be happening in London (and other cities in the UK?)

People have been filled with fear. Homes and businesses needlessly destroyed. Lives lost. Senseless.

The question … is this not a wake-up call?
Not just regarding the country, those in authority and everyone concerned about what is happening.
There is a much deeper message.  Along with many, many other incredible events throughout the world including the uprisings and conflict in the Middle East, famines, changing and extreme weather patterns, earthquakes, tsunamis, there is ever increasing lawlessness.
Everything put together – a sign of the times maybe?

Read this, particularly with the recent UK events in mind (including the financial crisis and phone hacking):

“You should also know this … that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control; they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. They will betray their friends, reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly” (2 Timothy 3:1-5a). Furthermore: “I want to remind you that in the last days there will be scoffers who will laugh at the truth and do every evil thing they desire … but the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly as a thief …” (2 Peter 3:3 & 10)

So, sign of the times? I believe so.
There is only One Way to be sure you are saved from the destiny of the Godless, make sure you give your life to Jesus … today.

An invitation: if you want to know more about Jesus, contact us today and we’ll be happy to tell you more and how you can be sure you have peace and salvation from an eternal hell.

I know, because I made that decision very many years ago … and I’ve NEVER regretted following Jesus. Get ready, Jesus is coming again, soon, this time as Judge and not as Saviour. Please make sure you meet Him as your Saviour.

EARTHQUAKES & TSUNAMIS

Has anyone stopped to think about what has been happening in recent days?

Two major earthquakes – Christchurch, New Zealand & Japan! Both within a very short space of time! The Japanese earthquake, one of the largest ever!
After the initial 8.9 event, a series of major tremors followed – six of them within an hour-and-a-quarter. These were all bigger than or all equal to last month’s quake in Christchurch, New Zealand (6.3 on the Richter scale) – the largest of the aftershocks being approximately 7.1.

The Tsunami followed with devastating effects. We’ve all seen the images – horrific in the extreme! Thousands of lives lost.

Has anyone stopped to consider that with the natural and human catastrophes of recent times with their ever-increasing frequency and intensity? Could we be nearing an event that supersedes all others?

As a journalist in a national newspaper said on Saturday, “What fools we are to think we can tame the wrath of nature”. Indeed!

But even more foolish is the one who says there is no God. “Only fools say in their hearts ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1)
The Bible tells us that “There will be mighty and violent earthquakes in various places, and plagues, (pestilences and epidemics of malignant, contagious diseases), and famines; and there will be terrors and great signs from heaven . . . and there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and upon earth despair among nations, with perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men’s hearts will faint from terror, being apprehensive of what is coming upon the world; for the very powers of the heavens will be shaken.” (Luke 21:11, 25-26) This is the start of things. We know from studying the Bible that as the end of the world approaches, all these things (and many more) will become more frequent and intense.
In Matthew 24:7-8 we read that Jesus’ return will be preceded by upheavals in nature which He likens to the birth pangs of a woman about to give birth. Ever-increasing in intensity and frequency as the birth of the child comes closer. Have the frequency and intensity of earthquakes increased? Yes indeed! Have violent and extreme weather conditions increased in frequency and intensity? Absolutely they have.

It is true that “no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son Himself. Only the Father knows” (Matthew 24:36). In fact, anyone who tries to set a date for the Lord Jesus Christ’s return should be ignored. But the signs point to a soon-coming event.
This is a vast subject which is impossible to cover in a blog of this kind. If you need more information, email me and I will let you have a copy of an article on this subject. “Are we living in the end times?”

In the meantime, think about it … if this Jesus the Christians speak about and love is really coming back again … soon, will you welcome Him or try to run away and hide. He is coming back again and it will be soon. So, if you have questions or we can be of any help, email us now.
